Environmental Awareness in the Maldives and Caribbean
This month we have focused on four of our fantastic properties which are working hard to protect, restore and reduce their impact on the environment.
Petit St Vincent, The Grenadines
Petit St Vincent are already seeing fantastic results with fast growth and good survival of the corals in their nurseries. Guests are invited to go for a guided tour to take a closer look at the coral restoration efforts for themselves.
Launching this month, they are also offering guests the opportunity to plant their own coral under the supervision of the coral specialists.
Bay Gardens Beach Resort, St Lucia
By the end of this month, Bay Gardens Resorts will have phased out the use of plastic items in favour of biodegradable versions made from wood, paper, compostable plastic and sugarcane bagasse – dry pulpy residue left after the extraction of the juice.
Over a year ago they terminated the use of all Styrofoam products and also introduced occupancy sensors in guestrooms, which detect when a room is vacant, so far leading to a 15% reduction in energy use.
Cobblers Cove, Barbados
We would like to say a huge congratulations to Cobblers Cove for winning Hotel of the Year 2018 at the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association Awards.
They also received the Agricultural Linkage Award for their sustainable agricultural and farm to table program recognising the hotel’s efforts in support of local farmers.
LUX* South Ari Atoll, Maldives
In June, LUX* received the Green Globe Certification, one of the most prestigious certifications and Performance Improvement Programme specifically designed for the travel and tourism industry.
LUX* South Ari Atoll gained international recognition for their Tread Lightly program, which targets a carbon neutral footprint through renewable energy projects.
