Beautiful Bequia

Posted on

The beautiful island of Bequia is the second largest of the Grenadine islands – a chain of small islands stretching around 50 miles from St Vincent in the north to Grenada in the south. The Grenadines are an ideal destination for those looking to experience something a little more off the beaten track and offer some of the best snorkelling and sailing in the Caribbean. Bequia is an authentic island hideaway. It exudes character and charm in equal measure and works well as either a standalone destination or as a twin-centre with islands such as Barbados or St Lucia.

Where to stay

Situated on Friendship Bay in the south of the island, this boutique hotel offers a relaxing and friendly atmosphere, coupled with first class dining options, a beautiful swimming pool and a secluded sandy beach.

Bequia Beach Hotel offers a wide choice of accommodation. Many of the spacious rooms and suites boast sea views and are appointed with contemporary colonial interiors. The Grenadine Hills collection meanwhile offers stunning villas combining privacy and luxury with the facilities of Bequia Beach Hotel right on your doorstep.

Bequia Beach Hotel’s cuisine has an excellent reputation. The beachside veranda at Bagatelle Restaurant offers a fusion of Caribbean and classic international dishes and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Blue Topic Restaurant meanwhile boasts a romantic setting on the hillside and offers a unique menu blending Italian and Caribbean cuisine. The hotel also owns Jack’s Bar and Restaurant – a nearby beach bar on Princess Margaret Beach which can be accessed by a shuttle service from Bequia Beach.

Getting to Bequia

Despite being off the beaten track, getting to Bequia is surprisingly easy! Access to Bequia is usually via Barbados. When you arrive in Barbados, you will have a short transit stop and you will be assisted in connecting onto an interisland flight for the 45 minute hop over to Bequia. Upon arrival in Bequia, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Bequia Beach Hotel have their own private aircraft which, during the winter season, exclusively flies hotel guests from Barbados and St Lucia to Bequia and back. This luxury option is both more comfortable and faster than the normal transfer service.

Exploring the island

Bequia is a fascinating island and is well worth exploring during your stay. One of the highlights is of course its spectacular beaches, but there are also plenty of places of interest to visit, such as a turtle sanctuary and tropical fruit plantations. Why not spend a day wandering around the island’s capital, Port Elizabeth, and pay a visit to the local markets and quaint cafes. History lovers meanwhile can pay a visit to the Bequia Heritage museum and learn about the island’s proud seafaring heritage – Bequia was once thought of as the boat building capital of the West Indies.

Exploring off shore
