Lakaz Chamarel
One of the most unique properties in Mauritius, Lakaz Chamarel is located within the Black River Gorges National Park and is made up of 24 rooms, suites and villas, offering spectacular views of the gardens, mountains and ocean beyond. Jessie said that it had a real home away from home feel and is the ideal spot for anyone wanting to see a little more of the island. She found that the guests staying here were sociable and happy to share their experiences over dinner. She would highly recommend a few days here combined with a stay on the coast for the perfect balance.
Not to be missed: Be sure to visit the Chamarel Geopark while you’re here. See the spectacular Seven Coloured Sands, stunning waterfalls and giant tortoises. Afterwards stop off at La Rhumerie de Chamarel for rum tasting in beautiful surroundings.
LUX* Belle Mare
Jessie was blown away from the moment she arrived at LUX* Belle Mare. The hotel has it’s own incredible signature scent which immediately creates a good first impression. Everything was immaculate and the service was second to none. The resort is large but Jessie felt that, as everything was very spread out, it never felt especially busy and there were plenty of places to relax. She loved that it was so child friendly, with both a kids and teens club as well as dedicated dining areas. Couples on the other hand are more than looked after, with adults only suites and various speciality restaurants.
Not to be missed: The beach! Two kilometres of pristine white sand accessed directly from the hotel grounds. Jessie said she could have spent a month on this beach!
Paradise Cove
Paradise Cove is an absolute hidden gem and very appropriately named! Due to it’s location in a secluded cove on the north coast, it is the only hotel on the island with it’s own truly private beach and is the perfect spot for an adults only break in luxurious and romantic surroundings. Jessie loved the stylish décor and although not a large resort, the hotel has cleverly created various different spaces for guests to enjoy. Dining options are extensive, with high quality a la carte cuisine as well as sumptuous buffet dinners featuring live cooking stations and beautiful views.
Not to be missed: Jessie loved the handmade pastries and speciality teas and juices that were available each day for all guests. She was really impressed by these extra thoughtful touches.
Constance Prince Maurice
Arriving at Constance Prince Maurice is beautiful, from the long driveway to the unique heart shaped roundabout and the stunning reception area. Jessie was immediately impressed by the wonderful service and felt that everything had a real personal touch. Due to it’s location, the hotel is the only one on the island where guests can experience the sunrise and sunset, and the beautiful rooms and restaurants are laid out to make the most of this. Jessie would highly recommend a visit to the huge wine cellar, the perfect place for those who love their wines!
Not to be missed: Le Barachois – While all of the dining options were beautiful this is set across five floating decks and is something very special. Be sure to make a reservation to avoid disappointment as tables book up quickly.
Salt of Palmar
Salt of Palmar is a hotel that does things a little differently and Jessie really enjoyed her visit here. She felt instantly welcome and loved the informal atmosphere. The hotel prides itself on its service as well as it’s food, and a large part of the menu caters for vegan and vegetarian guests using fresh local ingredients. There is a relaxed bar where guests can make their own drinks using the step by step cocktail guides and you can even learn to make your own beach bag. Make time to visit the rooftop bar which has a chilled out vibe and boasts stunning views of the ocean.
Not to be missed: The communal table at The Good Kitchen. Guests at Salt of Palmar tend to enjoy socialising and the communal table was really popular with a lovely atmosphere.
Mauritius is a beautiful island with a wide range of accommodation to suit every taste and budget. Jessie thoroughly enjoyed her stay and would love to share her knowledge and help with advice and recommendations for your next trip. Please call us on 01752 880880 or email [email protected].
